Helping Neighbors During Super Bowl Weekend

I was born and raised in California, in a supportive family with parents who worked hard to provide my siblings and me with a safe and healthy home and the opportunity to meet communities of people all over the world.

Growing up, we were taught the importance of helping others and how we each have the power to make a difference in our communities. Now, I am grateful to compete professionally in the sport I love and have a strong desire to give back to communities that have shaped and supported me.

Last week, I teamed up with Rebuilding Together to make critical home repairs for neighbors in need in Los Angeles’ View Park neighborhood. The initiative is part of Rebuilding Together’s 27th annual Kickoff to Rebuild. Hosted annually to rebuild homes and revitalize communities in Super Bowl cities across the country, Kickoff to Rebuild has impacted over 158 homes, engaged 5,000 volunteers and invested more than $5 million to communities in need. This year, teaming up with Lowe's and Omaze we provided essential home repairs for 16 neighbors and planted a community garden at the Consolidated Board of Realtists.

It was incredible to meet with and serve neighbors during Super Bowl weekend in a community near my alma mater, the University of Southern California. The work Rebuilding Together does to help ensure safe and healthy homes and communities means a lot to me because I believe no matter who you are or where you come from, everyone should have the opportunity to grow up and live in communities that empower them to achieve their goals.

The neighbors and families I met this weekend reminded me so much of my own family and the memories we share. I hope through these repairs, the neighbors I met can continue to build memories with their own families for years to come.

I admire the commitment and work of Rebuilding Together and its affiliates nationwide. Together, we share the belief that everyone should have access to safe and healthy homes and communities and I’m proud to be a part of this important work.
