Neighbors Helping Neighbors in Jordan Commons
Neighbors came together in the Jordan Commons neighborhood of Naranja, Florida and added a new layer of pride to a community that has been steadily transforming over time. Over the last two years, Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade and partners have worked alongside community members to complete critical repairs and renovations, including roofs, windows, doors, bathrooms and kitchens across more than 25 homes.

In just four hours, more than 175 volunteers came together to paint and landscape eight homes across the neighborhood. What started as a morning of service quickly became something bigger. As volunteers spread across the block, homes began taking on new life with refreshed exteriors and updated color palettes. By the end of the day, entire stretches of the neighborhood looked transformed. For resident Ms. Zambrana, the change hit close to home. “I’m so happy to see my house go from that ugly green color to a sleek, modern grey. Even my neighbors are asking how they can be a part of it.”

That excitement extended beyond the homes receiving updates. Throughout the day, neighbors stopped by to watch, ask questions and connect with the team. More than 30 applications were distributed to community members interested in receiving support from Rebuilding Together. While volunteers spent the morning giving back, residents found their own ways to show appreciation. Several people stopped by to chat and ask if any help was needed. A homeowner, whose house was not even being painted on that day, brought some treats to share with the volunteers, serving as a reminder that community care goes both ways.

These projects are more than just the repairs. They’re about creating spaces where people feel proud of where they live and connected to the people around them. In Jordan Commons, that transformation was visible not only in the fresh paint and landscaping, but in the conversations happening across driveways, the neighbors asking how to get involved and the shared belief that everyone deserves a safe, healthy home they’re proud to call their own.
