Remembering Hurricane Harvey 3 Years Later

Three years ago today, a category four Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas and Louisiana. The storm left thousands of neighbors in despair. Many people lost loved ones, lost their homes and lost the community around them.

We have not forgotten the impact of Hurricane Harvey and the neighbors that are still in need. Multiple of our affiliates have been working for the past three years to rebuild the homes of Harvey survivors. Rebuilding after a disaster is a long and painful process, but we are committed to these communities.

Rebuilding Together San Antonio is just one affiliate who has helped in the rebuilding process for neighbors impacted. A group of midshipmen from the United States Naval Academy travelled from Maryland to Texas to help Rebuilding Together San Antonio rebuild an Army veteran and his family’s home.

Rebuilding Together Houston was a lifeline for their community, helping to rebuild homes of neighbors in underserved areas of their community. In April 2020, they developed an Air Quality Intervention program and delivered air purifiers to many of the neighbors they served after Harvey. This project was aimed to help neighbors, many of whom are seniors, protect their respiratory health.

Rebuilding Together affiliates have helped rebuild and repair hundreds of homes since Hurricane Harvey hit on this day in 2017. We will continue to be there for our communities for years to come and are ready for when the next disaster strikes.
