Rebuilding Together to Celebrate Annual National Rebuilding Month

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 1, 2020 — Rebuilding Together, the leading national nonprofit organization with a mission to repair the homes of people in need and revitalize our communities, will celebrate National Rebuilding Month this April and raise awareness about the relationship between health and housing.

Each year during National Rebuilding Month, thousands of volunteers across the country come together to serve thousands of neighbors and communities in need. Due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic across the United States, Rebuilding Together will observe National Rebuilding Month online this year, and will postpone its scheduled builds across the country. Only emergency repairs that help vulnerable populations shelter in place and prevent injuries at home will be performed throughout the month of April.

Rebuilding Together is encouraging everyone during National Rebuilding Month to take advantage of the additional time at home to ensure their own homes are safe and healthy by following these simple steps.

Research shows a direct correlation between the physical and social conditions of homes and communities to health indicators like mortality, disability, mental health, injury and violence. Millions of people in the United States are currently experiencing the health and economic consequences of living in unsafe homes.

We are here to provide repairs and modifications to those who cannot afford them or are unable physically to make those necessary changes,” said Caroline Blakely, President and CEO of Rebuilding Together. “Our approach can benefit anyone who is spending increased time at home in coming weeks and throughout the year.
